Working at a clothing brand such as A&C has really allowed me to push boundaries and test out new styles that I normally wouldn’t be able to do at school because of the more casualΒ college vibe. In this look, They say every woman needs a little black dress, well every guy needs a little black dress shirt. Just as the black dress can easily be dressed up or down, so too can the black shirt. It’s the perfect canvas for you to play around with yet still remain an air of class and sophistication.

For this look, I added a pop of color for with the black shirt with these awesome light maroon chinos I snagged at H&M (on sale too). I decided to take a risk and use colors for my bottoms, something I normally don’t do, and it paid off pretty well. The color is more subdued than the neon blues and yellows that I’ve seen some guys rock, but I prefer the more muted maroon and navy colors.

I paired the look with a vest to help cinch in my waist and add another subdued layer. I love the fit of the clothes I buy from Express. They excel in the ultra slim fit cut and although some of their clothes don’t really fit me well (because of my build) the pieces that do fit well hug my body like a glove. I recommend the Producer line of suits for built guys.

To finish off the look, I layered my statement necklace that I thrifted from Crossroads and popped the collar open to fit the necklace. I turned one of the pairs of earrings I got from Crossroads into collar tips and wore the other pair on my ears. As you guys know, I am totally vibing the collar tip/cuff trend right now and I’m beginning to use interesting earrings as collar tips.

So here’s my revamped classic look. Comment below and let me know what you guys think! How do you guys like to dress up a black button up shirt?
